This is big news for every Flex and AIR developer that AMF protocol which was available only through Live Cycle Data Service now available as separate open source and free component called BlazeDS: BlazeDS is the server-based Java remoting and web messaging technology that enables developers to easily connect to back-end distributed data and push data in real-time to Adobe® Flex™ and Adobe AIR™ applications for more responsive rich Internet application (RIA) experiences.

Now why is this news big? So here is what Adobe says:

Previously AMF was available only as part of Adobe LiveCycle® Data Services ES, Adobe is announcing its plans to contribute the proven BlazeDS technologies to the community under the LGPL v3. BlazeDS gives the rapidly growing Adobe developer community free access to the powerful remoting and messaging technologies developed by Adobe.

Adobe has made surely smart move to kick out some hardcore AMF competition from open source remoting tools like OpenAMF, Red5 and Granite Data Service.

Now all this means, you can develop and deploy your Flex/AIR application using AMF without purchasing LCDS license, good for smaller companies and consultants who can use BlazeDS to build robust applications and increase their clients and business.

And I wonder is this the news Ted Patrick was hinting?

I am really excited to get my hands on BlazeDS.
